I recommended The Parent Compass by Cynthia Clumeck Muchnick & Jenn Curtis in my last newsletter, and I’m so glad I took my advice and dove into it during a week of rest and reflection over spring break. It reminded me how essential it is to step back, reflect on our role, and support our students in ways that empower them to grow confidently and purposefully.
📚 This parenting guide is a must-read (and re-read) during the teen years!
This book is part mirror, part map—a refreshing, compassionate guide for any parent navigating the teen years or the college admissions journey.
🔍 Key insights I loved:
✅ Start with YOU. Reflect on your values, mindset, and the messages you send your students.
✅ Parenting is not a competitive sport—ditch the scoreboard.
✅ Your teen is not a mini version of you. Embrace their individuality (even when it's messy).
✅ Don't orchestrate every move. Activities should spark joy and growth—not just fill a résumé.
✅ Teach self-advocacy early—a skill they'll carry for life.
✅ Family meals? Yep, still magical.
✅ And finally, It's the journey, not the destination.
At Williams Educational, these values align perfectly with our mission. For over 20 years, we've offered Parent and Student Coaching rooted in integrity, purpose, and personalized care.
