Woodward Academy is an independent, co-educational college-preparatory school for grades Pre-Kindergarten to 12 located on two campuses within the Atlanta metropolitan area. The main campus (K – 12) is in College Park and the North campus (Pre K – 6) is in Johns Creek. With over 2,700 students, Woodward Academy is the largest independent school in the continental United States including families from a diverse range of faiths and ethnicities.
The academy’s Mission is to combine the proud traditions of Atlanta’s oldest college preparatory school with an innovative, challenging and well-rounded educational experience. In a broadly diverse and caring community, Woodward embraces the uniqueness of each individual. Guided by core values of excellence, character and opportunity, they champion student success. Woodward Academy was founded in 1900 as Georgia Military Academy for boys. The school became coeducational and the military curriculum was dropped in 1966 when the school was changed to its current name. There are 300 certified faculty members, 85% of these hold Master’s degrees and 6 hold Doctorate degrees. The student to faculty ratio is 1:10. The school’s graduating class typically sends 100% of its members to college! They also collectively earn around $14 million in scholarship awards. This is a wonderful characteristic to have.
The Academy offers 22 AP courses in the Upper School and also has an acclaimed Transitional Program that offers students with learning disabilities special courses through 10th grade. After 10th grade, those students are mainstreamed in to traditional classes. There are 18 Varsity sports as well as a variety of performing and visual arts classes available. As for Admissions, interviews are required for all Main Campus applicants for grades three and above. Once the Admissions Office receives an application, the parents are then contacted to arrange an interview, in which they prefer both parents attend. During the interview, parent and students will obtain information about programs and services offered at Woodward Academy
